RESEARCH GROUPS

Our common analytical and normative focus is on the prevention, management,
and transformation of conflicts in world politics.

Our team members are divided into research groups, each with a focus on one issue-area. These three areas are not only subject to a lively intra-disciplinary debate, but they also share practical relevance in the current international environment. Our research treats these three areas separately as well as explore possible linkages between them.

ARMS CONTROL, DISARMAMENT, AND NON-PROLIFERATION

Building on our previous research on norm contestation, resistance, and deviance to study normative conflicts in global nuclear order.

FROZEN CONFLICTS

Analytically unpacking the problem of frozen conflicts escalation, drawing on our earlier policy project on “thawing” of post-Soviet frozen conflicts.

Power shifts
& world order

The issue of armed conflicts resulting from power shifts and (dis-)satisfaction in the international system, building on our prior research on great power cooperation.
