RESEARCH FOCUS

Sára's research focuses on Black self-defense groups in the U.S. and their understanding of self-defense in relation to the Second Amendment and Blackness. She focuses on how guns shaped Black people's ideas of self-defense between 1962 and 1982, including how the groups negotiated gender in the context of armed self-defense. Her research also explores how federal surveillance of Black self-defense groups was shaped by racialized assumptions rooted in white supremacy.
