The Future of Disarmament in an Era of Rearmament

  • Jinonice Campus, Charles University, Prague (map)

Join us for a panel discussion on the future of disarmament at a time when states around the world are rapidly rearming. As the international order shifts, the network of treaties and agreements that underpins nuclear arms control, non-proliferation, and disarmament is under growing pressure. At the same time, military capabilities are expanding and defence spending is rising sharply. The panel will examine the relevance, challenges, and prospects of disarmament in an environment shaped by strategic competition and military build-up.

The event will take place on Monday, November 2nd from 14:15 to 15:45 at the Jinonice campus (room C322).

The programme will include:

  • Welcome remarks by Prof. Michal Smetana, Director of the Peace Research Center Prague, Charles University.

  • Introduction of UNIC Prague by Michal Broza, United Nations Information Centre in Prague.

  • Interactive panel discussion with Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova, Japan Chair for a World without Nuclear Weapons at VCDNP, and Veerle Moyson, Project and Research Coordinator at the UNODA Vienna Office.

The session will be moderated by Alžběta Dvořáková.

The event is organized by the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in cooperation with the Peace Research Center Prague.
