New article: How did the U.S. reassure the public during the Russo-Ukrainian war?

Lauren Sukin and her colleagues just published an article in the Journal of Conflict Resolution titled Winning Hearts and Minds? How the United States Reassured During the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Traditionally, experts thought that the U.S. would assure its citizens and allies during crises by showing demonstrations of resolve (such as demonstrations of military capability). However, the authors argue that restraint may strengthen confidence more. They tested this hypothesis through an observational survey of 27 250 respondents across 24 countries on six continents, including diverse U.S. alliances and partnerships. The results challenge dominant scholarly narratives and provide proof that respondents worldwide were reassured by U.S.’ restraint in the Russo-Ukrainian war, rather than direct intervention.
