Water as a weapon: New article on U.S. advocacy to prohibit water weaponization

Eliška Pohnerová’s article explores how water is used as a weapon in armed conflict. Using a qualitative content analysis, she analyzes how the United States, a country theorized to be the most water taboo-compliant country, advocates for the prohibition of water weaponization in three conflicts: the Russo-Ukrainian War, the Israel–Hamas War, and the Yemeni Civil War. The study shows that water norms in practice are closer to humanitarian crisis prevention than a source of stigmatization based on abhorrence.
